No one wants to come home after a few days or weeks away to damage from broken windows, frozen pipes, or stolen property. Then follows the nightmare of insurance paperwork and repairs. Before you leave;
Secure your windows and doors
Put lights on timers, partially close your drapes/blinds
Shut off the water at the main and drain toilet tanks
In the winter turn the thermostat down and the hot water tank off
Tell a neighbor you will be away-have them or a family member check the home regularly, collect the mail, keep the driveway clear in winter or the grass cut in the summer. Always leave emergency contact phone numbers with someone.
