The 8th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival (www.hollyshorts.com)
wrapped with a standing room only awards ceremony at Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood. The ceremony was hosted by Amy Paffrath, host of MTV’s Jersey Shore After Hours. The HollyShorts Best Overall Short Film prize is a $10,000 post production and finishing services package from Company 3. New York's "Hip Priest", a short film written and directed by Gregg de Domenico and starring Gerard McNamee was included in the HollyShorts Festival.
The film has been already shown at the Montclair Film Festival, Hoboken International Film Festival and The Brooklyn Film Festival. The film was also selected to play at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC at the Black Maria Film Festival.
The film is a visceral and emotional exploration of the duality of man and the place for God in a sometimes dismal world. The protagonist,"
Priest", portrayed brilliantly, by Gerard McNamee, is an honest and enigmatic man. He lives by a personal code based in compassion and enlightenment. He smokes, he drinks, he puts one foot in front of the other, everyday, day in and day out. The film follows Priest, for a day in his life, in the neighborhood of East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he glides along with a street handshake and dreams to hold tight. Gerard McNamee has been compared to John Hamm and Peter O'Toole for his onscreen presence.
