The SAMFund – Surviving and Moving Forward was founded by Samantha Watson, a two-time cancer survivor. The SAMFund is the only organization in the US specifically designed to help young adults recover from the financial impact of cancer. By providing direct financial assistance as well as online and in-person support, The SAMFund gives survivors the tools and resources to be able to move forward with their lives after cancer treatment. In eight years of providing grants and scholarships, The SAMFund has distributed nearly $750,000.

Andrea Coller was an incredibly talented singer-songwriter and published author who beat Hodgkins lymphoma three times. Roughly six months after she performed at a benefit concert for The SAMFund, she lost her fourth bout with cancer on April 30, 2008 at the age of 29. The SAMFund established the Andrea Coller Memorial Award in 2009, and Andrea's family assists in choosing the Award's recipient.

Five artists contributed unreleased tracks or tracks from upcoming albums to "Grooving Forward, Volume 1", including Marc Cohn (“Silver Thunderbird”, live), Christian McNeill (“Manhattan Rose”), Ryan Fitzsimmons (“Vacation”), Caitlin Canty (“Still Here”) and Jared Salvatore (“Learned My Lesson”). Other artists include: Tim Gearan, Adam Ezra Group, Kingsley Flood, Jimmy Ryan, Eric Royer, Baker Thomas Band, Pesky J. Nixon, Danielle Miraglia, Greg Klyma and Brothers McCann.
