Follow on Google News | 15 Years Since Superhero Mother Teresa’s Last Interview Aired Hours Before Her Death in 1997Wednesday September 5th marks the 15th anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa who trained in Ireland and it’s now also 15 years since she gave her last interview in her home in Calcutta, India to a then young Irish journalist.
By: Marie O'Riordan The Irish woman recalls that even though Mother Teresa was awarded the Noble Peace Prize in 1979 she was so humble that she kept it in a cardboard box under her tiny bed with a label of ‘awards.’ ‘Mother Teresa was physically tiny but she reminded me of a superhero due to her gigantic presence and desire to get things done,’ says Marie. Marie remembers that Mother Teresa had flown back from New York after meeting Princess Diana in America and had photographs of herself and the Princess on a notice board in her home called Mother House. Of course, now the World knows what transpired afterwards was that both Princess Diana and Mother Teresa were dead within a week of each other. Marie was re-united with one of Mother Teresa’s nuns Sister Georgina in London, England last month while Marie was working on site at the London 2012 Olympic Games and says ‘it was a really rare experience back in 1997.’ Marie is now 37 and her life has changed significantly since then. She believes much of her international philanthropic success can be traced back to being inspired by Mother Teresa’s actions and work carried out by Irish aid workers in the grossly over-populated city which still remains one of the poorest places on Earth.
