The Simple Carnival's Music Videos to be Screened at 3D Film Festival

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 4, 2012 - Three animated music videos featuring the Pittsburgh-based pop band The Simple Carnival are Official Selections at 3DFF – The 3D Film Festival, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA (www.3dff.org). The festival is September 20, 21, and 22. Show times for The Simple Carnival's music videos are to be announced.

"It's an honor and a thrill to have my work included in what is sure to be an amazing festival event," said filmmaker/musician Jeff Boller.

Boller is currently creating Smitten 3D (www.smitten3d.com), a 40-minute animated music video movie. Boller has released in-progress segments from the movie, some of which have been Official Selections at 3D conventions and film festivals.

Three of the music videos from Smitten 3D - 'Smitten,' 'Everything That Grownups Know,' and 'Tornado' - will be screened at 3DFF.

Boller is also the songwriter and primary musician behind The Simple Carnival (www.simplecarnival.com). He is a multi-instrumentalist and is known for playing most or all of the instruments on his recordings.

It's called Smitten 3D, which Boller calls a 'music video movie'. "It's like listening to an album from beginning to end, but with a 3D music video to accompany every song."

Smitten 3D is a work in progress. Boller regularly posts songs and videos on The Simple Carnival's site, www.simplecarnival.com. Songs can be purchased on iTunes or downloaded for free with a Twitter or Facebook post.

The finished movie will eventually be released on a 3D blu-ray disc. "The completion date is...whenever it's done," Boller says.

Smitten 3D is a series of vignettes about being infatuated - and what happens afterward. "A good pop song touches the same part of your brain as infatuation," says Boller. "So I wrote a collection of songs around that idea. I've attempted to convey that lighter-than-air feeling both musically and visually."

Smitten 3D's charming, minimalistic cardboard cutout visuals are reminiscent of the Beatles' 1968 animated feature, Yellow Submarine. "I don't have the resources that Dreamworks or Pixar has," says Boller. "I decided that a slightly ragged, hand-crafted visual style with high production values was more achievable than Shrek or Toy Story-style 3D animation."

The Simple Carnival has released four CDs since 2005, with Boller performing all vocals and 30+ instruments in his basement studio. Critics declared his 2008 album, Girls Aliens Food, "a soft pop masterpiece" (Powerpopaholic), "STUNNING... HUGELY recommended" (Not Lame), and "one of the all-time great melodic long-players" (Alan Haber's Pure Pop Radio). Girls Aliens Food made a number of critics' best-of lists in 2008, as well as a few best-of lists in 2009. In 2012, the Japanese record label Production Dessinee released a remastered Girls Aliens Food CD with bonus tracks.
