Long-time local high school (Eastern Voc-Tech & Perry Hall High School) and Naval Academy standout runner returns home after serving 20-plus years and retiring from serving our great nation as a colonel, commander, and pilot. During this time Timothy Tenne has served in most every contingency and humanitarian effort to include: Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Bosnia, Katrina Relief, Pentagon 911 attack, and most recently the NATO Libya operations. After receiving his coaching from the famed coach Jerry Martin, Tim continued to maintain his competitive edge, running at the NCAA Division I national level, Air Force National Teams, and on other sponsored teams. He also has coached High School Cross Country & Track where he continues to inspire and train the next generation of runners.
During his tour of duty in California, members of the City Council, along with local leaders asked Tim if he could help with the City’s newly opened youth center. It didn’t take Tim long to build the team, create the plan, and form and lead the non-profit organization that would not only help sustain the city’s youth center, but forge his next chapter in promoting and providing running and race solutions through his newly found company, T3 Run. In that time, the races in California have provided over $120,000 to the youth center with major national sponsors and a mention a one of the top 50 road races in the country by Bob Anderson, founder of Runner World magazine. What makes his races different are the attention to detail and leadership Tim provides in making each event outstanding from start-to-finish.
It’s been 5 years since he started these endeavors, with most of the groundwork being done into the late hours of the evening since Tim was still serving in uniform with a very busy schedule and balancing his very supportive family. He’s created and directed races in California, Alaska, and now his first race coming up here in Towson (Towson5k.com)
The Towson Downtown 5K is going to be a great event you don’t want to miss! We know that runners and participants have options and choices, but we know when you run one of our events you will come back year-after-year. Participants in this year’s events are in-store for a fast course, great support, a prize purse valued at over $3000, and will be treated to a high-energy after party at 7 West Bistro Grille of Towson. 7 West is this year’s presenting sponsor and will be the center of attention as we will make it race central and headquarters for registration, the awards ceremony, and a place for participants and spectators to unwind after burning some calories on the course. All the participants in this year’s event will receive a tech shirt, RFID professional timing, and be treated to mimosas and beer (21 and over) following the race, along with post-race refreshments inside 7 West Bistro Grille. In addition, 7 West is providing gift cards to the winners, so they can experience their world-class food and entertainment first-hand.
