Fondly known as the Slumdog Millionaire actress, the Mumbai born and talented star never forgets those that helped her achieve her fame and award-winning roles. Her debut film went on to win eight Academy Awards in 2008 including best picture putting Pinto, Dev Patel and Bollywood A-lister Anil Kapoor in the spotlight on the world stage. Pinto has stated how proud she is that both her film and India were represented at the Academy Awards.
Directed by the acclaimed and brilliant director, Michael Winterbottom, Trishna is based on Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles written by Thomas Hardy. Frieda portrays the role of Trishna, a young innocent Indian girl working to help her family make ends meet. Along the way, she meets Jay (the debonair star Riz Ahmed) and their relationship begins with a nebulous encounter triggering deep emotions, drama and pain. Trishna is Pinto's first role as a lead actress.
