This year marks the fourth year of the Good Fathers Only organization participating in Detroit's annual Labor Day Parade. "I've chosen the Labor Day Parade because it represents the very thing that most fathers who are not in the home lack: a job. A lot of men get frustrated with their economic situation, and walk away. Our group wants to discourage this by providing father's with options that include entrepreneurship"
Nationwide the statistics are discouraging. Some 25% of U.S. households are single parent households, with the vast majority without the father present. According to the National KIDS COUNT Program, 66% of black children are in single parent households. In the state of Michigan where Mann is based, some 73% of black children are raised in single parent households. "Detroit is ground zero in this movement to get father's reconnected to their children--no matter the situation. I believe that with a continuous effort, Good Fathers Only can and will make a difference", says Mann.
