Sofitel Manila Supports Accor’s Planet 21 Program

Aug. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- Accor Group of Hotels launches Planet 21, a new global sustainable development program that sets new environmental and social targets for the hotel chain, which includes among many other brands, Sofitel. The program is structured around 21 commitments backed by quantifiable objectives that all Accor hotels are expected to meet by 2015. With Planet 21, Accor is making sustainable hospitality the focus of its strategic vision, as well as its development and innovation processes. It’s an ambitious aim in which both employees and customers have a role to play.

At Sofitel Manila, ambassadors plant seedlings on the hotel's rooftop to kick off Accor's Planet 21 program. With Planet 21, Accor has made 21 commitments in favor of sustainable development. Intrinsically linked to sustainable development, the name Planet 21 refers to Agenda 21, the action plan adopted by 173 Heads of State at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. It also echoes the urgent need to focus efforts in the 21st century to change our production and consumption patterns with the goal of protecting our planet, its people and their environment.

In today’s uncertain world, Accor aims to provide guests and employees with a healthy environment that reassures them with regard to food-related, hygiene and environmental risks. For the environment, Accor has already planted two million trees as part of a global reforestation project supported by the United Nations.

The Planet 21 strategy also includes a program for informing customers and encouraging them to contribute to the hotels' actions and achievements. From booking to room stay and restaurant service, customers will discover a rich and diverse array of educational messages encouraging them to contribute actively to the hotel's action by means of a few simple gestures. The tone of the messages will be friendly and thoughtful, aimed at encouraging customers to participate without ever making them feel guilty.
