Follow on Google News | 'Olympic events will drive British entries in the New York Marathon', say Sports Tours InternationalSports Tours International, one of the UK's largest specialist sports travel companies, says the success of Team GB could have an immediate impact by inspiring Britons to run in the ING New York City Marathon.
By: Sports Tours International "Team GB's success has been overwhelming and, like most of the country, we were glued to the Games," a spokesperson for the firm said. "But it is the commitment and sacrifices that these athletes have shown which is truly inspiring. Their efforts and professionalism have demonstrated what it takes to achieve your ultimate potential and we've seen a lot of interest from the public to start their own sporting journey by signing up to competitive events, including cycling, running and swimming." For the New York Marathon Sports Tours International put together three different travel packages for those looking to attend. The first included flights, hotel accommodation, transfers and rep services, with an option to purchase entry for the race; the second was hotel only, but again with the option to purchase entry; and the last was a flight and entry only package. "We've been taking runners to the New York Marathon for almost 40 years and can provide guaranteed entry into this amazing race," the spokesperson said. "Our travel package options mean we can help you create the New York experience you want. All you have to do is make sure you train properly for the race itself." Among the most inspiring figures of the Olympic Games is 10,000m and 5,000m runner Mo Farah, who won the Gold in both events. Sports Tours International said his achievements could also lead people into taking on their first 5k or 10k race. "Mo Farah is an inspiration and his triumph at London 2012 will go a long way towards raising the profile of running these distances. The great thing about 5k and 10k runs is that they are so accessible here in the UK. Coming up this year, we have the City of Salford 10k and 5k races, while next year we have, among others, the We Love Manchester 2013 10k in association with K-Swiss – another popular race for people of all abilities," the spokesperson said. The closing date for the ING New York City Marathon has now passed but marathons are still taking place closer to home.
