The Lon B. Rogers Lifetime Achievement Award is given to someone who has spent years of their life striving to make the region a better place. "Jack is a thoughtful and passionate community leader who exemplifies those qualities through his actions," said Jared Arnett, President/CEO at Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. "His commitment to his community has had a positive impact."
“This is a prestigious award, and it’s an honor to be recognized by such a great chamber,” said Sykes. “I thank God for his blessing, both personally and professional. God is great!” He continued to thank his wife, Debbie for her love and support throughout the years. “Love for your community starts at home.”
He concluded by acknowledging and thanking his Summit partners, clients, supporters, and friends. “Without them none of my accomplishments would have been possible,” said Sykes.
Sykes has been instrumental in the conception and promotion of the Christian Golfers Association and the Mountain Golf Trail.

Sykes has served as President and CEO of Summit Engineering since its conception in 1977. The firm, which is a leading engineering service provider to the mining industry, has grown to include 150 employees with seven offices located in Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia. Additionally Summit Engineering provides civil, architecture, environmental, surveying and laboratory services to the region.
Sykes, and his wife, Deborah has been lifetime residents of Pike County. They are the proud parents of Christie Sykes Newsome, married to Hank Newsome and Ashlie Sykes Childers, married to Anthony Childers and grandparents of one grandson, Wyatt Newsome, son of Christie and Hank. The Sykes are members of First Baptist Church in Pikeville where he serves as Deacon.
