By: MMI India Pvt. Ltd.

Aug. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Mumbai:  According to a new market research  LASER Technologies, components and its applications market globally is expected to reach $19.88 billion by 2017 at a CAGR of 19.2% from 2012 to 2017. India, as a fast moving and developing country, has emerged as a key market and driving force for manufacturing and other industries that can make India the next Technology Hub for Lasers.
CEO of MMI India, Mr. Darryl Dasilva adds, “Seeing the potential of India to expand and develop  in the Laser and photonics industry, MMI India came up with LASER WORLD of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012 which will provide a unique networking platform for the Indian & International LASER and photonics industry”.  LASER WORLD of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012 will take place for three days from 14th to 16th September 2012 from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M.
LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012 is supported by associations like the Indian Laser Association (ILA), Optical Society of India (OSI), Photonics Society of India (PSI), Automation Industry Association and more.
Mr. P.K Gupta, President of the Indian Laser Association shared his enthusiasm on the LASER WORLD of PHOTONICS India 2012, wishing it luck and stated, “I’m very happy to note that the organizers of Laser World of Photonics, the leading trade show for photonics, held biannually at Munich, have decided to organize a similar trade show in India. This augurs well for the growth of the photonics activity in India. I hope that the Laser world of Photonics India will provide a useful platform for interaction between scientific and industrial communities.”
Different lasers are meant for different applications. Lasers are used in automotive, jewellery designing, defense and security, medicine, aeronautics, etc. Laser and laser technologies are widely used in perimeter security, rang-finding, target designation, monitoring of hazardous gases and illumination. The use of lasers in medical sciences is also widespread due to its advantage in terms of precision and minimal invasiveness.  They are primarily being used for surgical procedures on eyes, blood vessels, and other body parts as also in open heart surgeries to aid better blood flow.
Mr. Soumitra Joshi, Managing Director of TRUMPF, which is also the principal sponsor of the event, said, “With the high potential in India for specific laser applications, the laser technology field is set to grow steadily over the years to come. Laser offers precision with quick process turnaround. The advantages far outweigh the manual processes. Laser welding provides high productivity and small amount of down –time compared to other forms of welding processes. In the future, laser will be used majorly in every manufacturing and other industries.”
By definition, a LASER is a beam of light typically that has the dual abilities of being able to travel very long distances with little divergence and also the ability to focus on a very small and finite spot. These dual capabilities mean laser technology is now being used in a wide variety of applications in manufacturing, packaging, entertainment and other industries. After first being developed in 1960 some of the more obvious applications have been laser cutting, laser welding, and laser marking. The potential applications of photonics are virtually unlimited and are used in medical diagnostics, laser defence, on-chip data communication and fusion energy and more
Mr. Rahul Gaywala, Director of Technology Development at Sahajanand Technologies (P) Ltd, shared his views on the maturing applications of laser in India and said, “Laser technology has come a long way, from miniscule lasers in CD players to lasers used in medical sciences to massive lasers in aeronautics design. Moreover I see incredible opportunities available in the field of laser and photonics, innovative laser technologies that are to bring unexpected scientific discoveries in the future and open up opportunities for industry relevant producers worldwide.”
With over 110 leading global and Indian companies showcasing their advanced laser and photonics equipments and technology and with pavilions ranging from countries like China, Germany, Japan and Lithuania, will be part of this unique networking platform for the laser and photonics industry in India.
A special highlight will be the “Seminar on Laser Basics and Applications”, scheduled on 14th Sept 2012, which gives a quick overview of laser and photonics technology for potential users from different application fields. Speakers from Sahajanand Laser Technology, TRUMPF, IPG Photonics, RRCAT, Optical Society of India and many more, will share their thoughts and insights about the opportunities and challenges in the laser industry. The seminar is tailor-made for novices to the laser world as well as companies and users from different application fields.
“LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012 is the newest platform in India to showcase the prominence of laser in today’s world, and would highlight its potential for the future through the exhibition, and a seminar held concurrently with the exhibition. Optical Society of India (OSI), whose mandate is to promote, diffuse, encourage research, and disseminate knowledge of optics and photonics in the broadest sense in all its branches – pure and applied, is proud to be associated with this mega event.” says Prof. Bishnu Pal, President, Optical Society of India and Fellow of The Optical Society OSA (USA).
Besides the seminar, Messe München International also presents the “Photonics Forum: Talking Trends", an exclusive platform for technical discussions, industry-expert talks and innovative technologies on 15th and 16th September. To visit the show and register for the seminar, you can pre-register at www.photonicsindia.net.
