The president released the final version of the federal 2025 fuel economy mandates this week, which means that average ratings for cars and light trucks must be at 55 mpg or better. While many automakers initially resisted the law, most major manufacturers are now on board with the regulations. After the Arab Oil Embargo of 1971, the U.S. Congress acted to bring mileage numbers up in order to create national oil independence. Lexus will bring its concept hybrid LF-LC to the Australian Motor Show in October, which will mark the first time the vehicle has appeared in public since it debuted at the Detroit Motor Show in January. The all-wheel drive, 470-hp engine system will feature a silver exterior in Australia, unlike the bright red version in Detroit. While there has been no official word from Lexus about a production model, industry-watchers think the reappearance of the LF-LC at a major show hints at the carmaker’s intentions.
