WMIFF is an IMDb qualifying international film festival. . Hartmans, which features a soundtrack of notable indie music artists, premiered through an innovative rock club tour of New York City in the fall of 2011 just as the Occupy Wall Street campaign was gaining momentum. Media were quick to connect the comedy parable to the real life movement and its grassroots rejection of a corporate-controlled world. Huffington Post called it “a joy ride from start to finish...with topics that the 99% can relate to”. Additional coverage came from The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter and Gothamist. Hartmans also stars WMIFF nominees Jennifer Restivo, Joy Suprano and Jonah Spear. The script, penned by Newman and Emmy-award winner Peter J. Brash, was nominated for Best Screenplay. Alec Puro was nominated for Best Original Sound. Music from Freelance Whales, Iron and Wine and Black Taxi highlight the film's soundtrack. The film was also an official selection at the Atlanta Film Festival and New York's CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival.
