Aug. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- HOLLYWOOD, August 29, 2012 – The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is partnering with MediaMine to develop a new Walk of Fame application for the Internet, mobile and tablet devices that will offer a suite of customized, engaging features utilizing geo-location technology and social sharing connectivity. The Walk of Fame app will be like a personal digital docent, turning the iconic Hollywood sidewalks into an informative and fun museum of entertainment history. The app is currently slated to be available for download next summer.

MediaMine, a digital media asset management company that consults with content and brand owners to realize the full potential of their assets, will curate the Chamber of Commerce’s collection, a treasure trove of historic Hollywood content, into a usable app for travelers that is part tour guide, part scavenger hunt, part game and part local services provider. MediaMine will utilize its proprietary Digital Docent™ technology as the underlying platform for the Walk of Fame app. The first phase of the project consists of MediaMine digitizing the Chamber’s vast materials that document momentous occasions from recent Hollywood events to endearing moments from decades past.

“The idea is to transform a tourist’s trip from a passive experience into one with engaging information in the form of news, videos, photos, letters and other information about the fascinating events occurring in Hollywood throughout the 20th century as well as present day,” says Leron Gubler, president and CEO of The Chamber. “There is a surplus of fun activities, entertainment venues, and points of interest when one visits Hollywood. MediaMine has devised an app that will marry today’s technology with the heritage contained in our library that, until now, was inaccessible by the public.”

With nearly 2,500 stars, Walk of Fame users will be able to build custom itineraries prior to their visit by simply selecting stars for their must-see list. To make the process even easier, the app also will provide a range of pre-defined tours based on various criteria input by users, such as length of travel and areas of particular interest. Travelers will be able to post photos to the application in real time as they tour the Walk of Fame, enabling them to share their experiences directly with their friends on various social networking sites.

“Our goal is to take underserviced collections and discover the value and legacy to be shared on today’s new media platforms and transmedia environments,” says MediaMine Co-Founder and President Barry Snyder. “The potential for digital asset management solutions is limitless. Content owners, brands, corporations, museums, universities, retail product companies, sports teams or almost any institution with valuable information and wares can reach new audiences and engage in exciting, inventive ways.”

Features such as the Star Map, will highlight stars on a visual map utilizing augmented reality technology that indicates other points of interest nearby. Visitors can then plot custom itineraries to ensure they get to see everything they came to see. As users approach their points of destination along the Walk of Fame, they will be presented with a rich collection of information concerning the associated celebrities. In addition to text, photos and videos of their chosen stars, the app also lets visitors discover the stars’ favorite spots nearby.

As they navigate their route, the app will inform travelers of other places of interest near their chosen route, allowing them to see what’s around them, including entertainment, dining and shopping options, so that all the information they need is at their fingertips. They can bookmark favorite stars, attractions, vendors and retail stores as well as create notes so they can return to a particular location on their current trip, or a future Hollywood vacation.

Other engaging features include the Walk of Fame’s Trivia Challenge and Scavenger Hunt, which will lead users to nearby locations and provide more information about their favorite celebrities as well as receive discounts and exclusive offers from local merchants.

The application will also feature for-purchase virtual items and hard goods, enabling people to share their adventures with friends via their social media sites as well as enjoy the experience later—time and time again.

App users can also request updates from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, such as when a new Star is added. Future releases will include language translations, so foreign visitors can enjoy all that Hollywood has to offer as well.
