Kickstarter project EmoticonPOP Launches today at http://www.kickstarter.com/
EmoticonPOP, http://www.emoticonpop.com, is wall art to express your personality. As emoticons have become a way to express sentiment in otherwise blasé emails and text messages, the same expressions can bring playful warmth to a room or work space. Each EmoticonPOP piece embodies a modern version of the pop art movement from the 1960s. The shiny colorful acrylic materials pay tribute to this history. The helvetica font face, created in 1958 and having stood the test of time, connects this retro look to the present day iconography of emoticons. The three sizes and multiple colors allows you to mix and match the variety to express a unique affect that embodies your personality.
EmoticonPOP was developed by Thomas Hall when he realized that the same icons used to add expression to text messages and emails could have the same impact with home decor.
"We moved into our house about a year ago, and while we painted the walls with vibrant colors, it still didn't express the sentiment of our family. I was texting my wife on the couch one day when the idea hit me to take the emoticons from the phone and put them on the wall. From the point, the idea grew to reflect the pop art movement from the 1950 and 60's, because in this movement, artists took everyday iconography and elevated the status of these icons to art. We are doing the same thing with emoticons."
Thomas Hall started EmoticonPOP as a way to express his personalities in his home. He has a passion for good design whether he is working in his woodshop, creating the next EmoticonPOP art, or developing websites and online strategies. Tom and his family live in San Diego with his wife and three daughters where they keep him on his toes, critique his designs and help out wherever possible.
Kickstarter, http://www.kickstarter.com, is a crowd funding platform for creative projects. With this platform, artists have a set number of days to raise all the funds, or the project receives nothing. EmoticonPOP has a 31-day fundraising window, from start to finish. If the allotted budget ($4,000 US) isn't raised before Sept 28, all pledges are cancelled. The EmoticonPOP project will start on August 28.
