Chowderfest Weekend September 29 & 30, draws restaurants, celebrity judges and Chowderheads searching for an end of summer party

Aug. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- There is plenty to celebrate as Chowderfest turns 24th this September and a better party has never been planned. In addition to welcoming thousands of Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce’s closet friends and hundreds of community volunteers, 18 restaurants have signed on to serve up some clam chowder in paradise at the Taylor Avenue Ball field, behind Bay Village in Beach Haven.

The rain or shine festivities begin on Saturday Sept  29 for the free Merchant Mart  from 10am to 4pm with end of season bargains, live music, costumed characters and great food and beer available for purchase. Then it’s the Chowder Cook Off Classic Sunday Sept 30 join Bistro 14, CHEGG (Chicken or the Egg), Phillips Seafood, Red Dog Café, Southern Smoke, The Black Whale, Buckalew’s Tavern Stefano’s Seafood, Greenhouse Café, Country Kettle Chowda, TGI Fridays,, Gourmet Deli, Howard’s ,Four C’s Sons, Lefty’s Tavern, The Maine Course,Chart House, and Black Dog Café for unlimited Chowder tasting and amazing live music from Hawkins Road Band. Also shop for exclusive Chowderwear  merchandise like official Taster’s T Shirts and  LBI Chowderfest Bracelet Beads. Enter our first ever Chowder Caddy Contest for the best holder , or purchase one from Re Clam the Bay on site.

Along with the popular vote, Ed Hitzel, publisher, broadcaster and overeater extraordinaire has created his 2012 dream team of renowned culinary judges to award the coveted Critic’s Choice Award to bestow on a worth red and white competitor. This year’s list includes:
Neil Elsohn, renowned chef, founder of Water’s Edge and Gertrude’s, Ventnor, Natalie Bailey, author, chef, broadcaster, Richard Dobbins, writer for Ed Hitzel’s Magazine and broadcaster, Darcy Williams, writer, Michael Huber, freelance writer, chef and educator. Geoff Johnson, owner, Copper Fish, Cape May, Ed Blake, hospitality employment Jeff Reich, Executive Chef, Rib and Chop House at the Showboat, Camille DeCaro, chef and author,  Phyllis Oppenheimer from the NJ Dept. of Travel and Tourism,  Nancy Adler, nutritionist and author, Angela Musto D’Arrigo of Ed Hitzel’s Magazine, Lee Quarella, owner, Bellview Winery Janice Gallagher, writer and restaurant critic,  Paul Sandler, General Manager The Palm, Atlantic City, Mark Haynie: NJ columnist for MidAtlantic Brewing News and "The Beer Guy" in The Press of AC.Todd Noon, writer and Candy Penn writer and pastry chef. These judges will make rounds during the event and present scores for Mr Hitzel to calculate. The winner for the Critic’s Choice will be announced along with popular vote winner at the award ceremony beginning at 5pm.

Advanced Tickets for Sunday Sept 30 Chowder Cook off Classic can be purchased on line at chowderfest.com or by visiting the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce at 265 West Ninth Street, Ship Bottom 609 494 7211 or at the gate the day of the cook off. Adult Tickets are $20, Children 12 and under $10 or VIP for early admittance and Taster T shirt for $50.
