Aug. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- The premiere of artist Brian Reed’s
FROM CHINA TO THE UNIVERSE

Launch Party: Wed, Sep 5th 6-11pm @ 163 Charles St., West Village

Celebrate the kick-off event of Wirelos’ international Toltec Tour, an art
experience bringing renowned artists to cities around the world, including the
return of Artist Brian Reed. We present in triumph, a spectacle of three floors
and 10 years of Reed’s spectacular work and journey including some never before
seen works. Celebrate the launch of Reed’s first international tour with the kick
off show, “From China to the Universe.” Reed will give us a teaser of the universe
he’s about to create and exhibit during the next 3 months in China.

Reed left high school at 17, after the tragic death of his father, to pursue a career
in art at James Madison University. Three days after graduating with honors and
degrees in art history and studio painting at age 21, Reed was run over by a truck,
leaving him paralyzed and unable to walk. Through art, Reed transformed his life
as he triumphed over the nearly impossible task of regaining mobility. He moved
to Manhattan in 2008 while attending Yale University’s graduate program in art
history studying pre-Colombian and African Art. Reed’s first New York Times
reviewed show in 2010, “Through the Heart of it All” generated ripples that
permeated social discourse in the art world and Manhattan Society. Especially the admission by the NYPD, after closing down the exhibition, that Reed’s bold
use of the Human Body in his performance installation was protected by the First
Amendment as freedom of expression. Reed’s courageous stand won strong
support from the American Civil Liberties Union, American Bar Association and
The National Coalition Against Censorship. Reed continued to exhibit nationally
with transforming works that coalesced viewers through his use of cultural icons
to illustrate universalisms present in multiple cultures. As noted curator Laura
Roulet observed, “Reed approaches all cultures with a pantheistic fervor.” His
sophisticated installations bombard the senses with light, sound, and a visual
symphony uniting participants with the question, “what does it mean to be
Human?”

September 5th is a must see event, as Reed features top models including
international supermodel Ujjwala Raut in a stunning performance, adorned with
custom styles by award-winning Spanish designer José Miró, film producer and
internationally acclaimed makeup artist Marco Castro, international celebrity
DJ Alex Graham, electronica Pax Humana stars Brian Lingren and Samir Zarif, all
brought together by Wirelos to compose a uniquely stimulating journey of the
senses. Be a part of this magic carpet experience at the forefront of the leading
minds in design, cultural expression, and commerce. It will be an unforgettable
evening you won’t want to miss.
