Bridgeway Academy Unveils New Learning Styles Assessment Tool for Students

Aug. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Catasaqua, PA.  This week, the nationally accredited Bridgeway Homeschool Academy released an excellent new tool for parents and students to utilize this week – all free of charge.  The goal of Bridgeway’s Learning Style Assessment Tool is to provide parents and teachers with a better understanding of just how a student processes new information and applies it in academics or in real-life.

According to Jessica Parnell, President of Bridgeway Academy, “Knowing your child's preferred learning style can help you inspire and excite them when presenting new material.  If your child is struggling in a particular area, the Learning Style Assessment gives insight and ideas for engaging kids in their preferred learning style and to their dominant personality type.”

The assessment tool is free to use and consists of an online survey that can be found at www.homeschoolacademy.com/assessment.  This assessment tool will not only benefit homeschooled students, but can also be utilized by traditional school students.  It will help parents to identify a child’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as motivate and challenge them.  After a parent or student completes the assessment, they will receive a detailed report full of insights, tips and ideas – all without charge.

Research has shown in recent years that all students learn a bit differently than their peers or siblings – our brains are all “wired” differently.  This can lead to frustration –especially since most of us tend to teach in our own preferred style or in a style that meets the needs of the majority.  This presents many problems in a traditional school classroom, or even among siblings in homeschooled situations.

And according to Parnell, “It’s actually quite common for parents to favor a different style of learning than their child does.  So in order to work effectively with your child it is important to also understand your own learning style as well.”  Parnell recommends that parents also take the learning style assessment in order to get a full picture of how the teaching and learning will take place.

After all, no matter what your age may be, you are never too old to learn something new.  Discovering just HOW you learn can be the key to learning faster.  Parnell – a homeschool mother herself – laughingly admits that “at the lightening speed of technology today, even an old dog needs to keep learning new tricks!”
