Nitin Bajaj, Alumni IMT CDL – IMT CDL brought me up-to-date on the language of business management

2009 was a fantastic year for Nitin Bajaj. It was the year when Nitin had been nominated as Global Head for Telecom Alliances by Tata Consultancy Services – the organisation which he has been with for the last 14 years.

It was the year when Nitin had been nominated as Global Head for Telecom Alliances by Tata Consultancy Services – the organisation which he has been with for the last 14 years. His elevation was for the purpose of kick-starting the crucial joint ‘go-to-market’ alliance between TCS and an industry-leading European telecom equipment vendor company. By a strange coincidence, it was also the year when Nitin Bajaj completed his PGDM from IMT CDL. Nitin feels that IMT CDL fast-tracked his learning process of management, and by inference, his career.

“Prior to IMT CDL, most of my knowledge of business management was picked up from experience, senior colleagues at the work-place and even clients I was interacting with. Thanks to IMT CDL, what would’ve otherwise taken me much longer to learn was done in a much shorter span of time. IMT CDL brought me up-to-date on the language of business management, helping me immensely with my business negotiations and interactions.”

Over his 14 years with TCS, Nitin – who is currently responsible for the joint ‘go-to-market’ alliances with a portfolio of leading Telecom companies worldwide – has won the ready admiration of his colleagues and clients at the work place. ‘Hard-working’, ‘passionate professional’, ‘eager to learn new things’,‘positive outlook’ and ‘never-say-die attitude’ are words in which he is described. Over the years, he has handled a number of critical Telecom accounts spread across the US and Europe for TCS, in the capacity of Business Relationship Manager. Understandably, his BE(Electronics) from Pune University made his understanding of the Telecom and Information Technology domains and quite astute; but sometime in the year 2007, he felt the necessity to upgrade and formalise his management knowledge.

“I wanted to pursue my Post Graduation in Business Management without leaving my job. There was no reason to, as TCS has a culture which encourages professional knowledge enhancement while on the job. I sought advice from quite a few colleagues on options available to me. The recommendation for IMT CDL was more-or-less unanimous. The opinion was that it stressed a lot on currency, and the curriculum was quite exhaustive. IMT-CDL won hands down.”

While Nitin Bajaj comes with a natural flair for leadership skills, general bonhomie and a positive attitude, he believes he is a sharper negotiator because of what was taught at IMT CDL. Thanks to the lessons he has learnt, he advocates what’s best for his organisation, and yet is open to considering the alternatives offered by its counterpart.

“While pursuing the course at IMT CDL, I had the added benefit of making connections and sharing experiences with students, industry-leaders and professors, who, like me, are working in various industry sectors. This helped me broaden my understanding about the advances being made in the markets the world over. Also, I would never let go of an opportunity to implement what I was learning from IMT CDL in my work-place.

Nitin Bajaj believes that a manager must continuously upgrade his knowledge, since it’s the only way he or she can remain relevant to industry. He feels that IMT CDL has served quite a few purposes in his life, and remains the finest place for working professionals to pursue a hassle-free PGDM.
