By: Academy of Combat Application Techniques September 7th, The Academy of Combat Application Techniques in Fort Worth, will begin their next Military Combatives class. Registration for this class is going on from 25 August to 7 September, 2012. This is not your average combatives class. All candidates for this class must pass a criminal background check and cannot have felony convictions. Trainees will undergo a class on injury mitigation, Texas Penal Code, deadly force and escalation of force procedures. They must also pass a written exam with a passing grade of 85 percent or higher. Like the green berets students are selected by the head instructor a former Special Forces Soldier himself. The program was developed and is taught by the “Academy of Combat’s” head instructor Andrew Curtiss. Curtiss began teaching Women’s Self Defense courses as an assistant to his Martial Arts instructor who is a police detective in Upstate New York; when he was fifteen years old. Curtiss now 34; Curtiss runs his own programs based on the research and development that he has done over the last 15 years. Curtiss says he was drawn to this type of program, because typically women are not as strong as a man and if a technique works for even the smallest and most meek woman then it should be extremely effective for a man. Curtiss used much of his experience in Women’s Self Protection training to develop a military combatives program for his Special Forces A- Team when he was asked to develop an efficient hand to hand combat program in 2003. This program was designed to be easy to learn and apply, be effectively used in low light conditions, without athleticism, against multiple attackers, in a state of poor health or injury and have commonality of training techniques in order to develop neuro pathways to make the techniques second nature. Unlike many other “Combatives” The next class will begin Friday September seventh at the Academy of Combat Application Techniques, and will run from 7:30 - 9pm. The fee is 35 dollars to register and 65 dollars a month to train. Space is limited. Participants can pre register and assure a spot in the class by calling The Academy of Combat at 682-841-2212 or by emailing academyofcombatapplications@ End
