Leading American Humanist To Visit Wilmington, North Carolina

Dave Niose, President of the American Humanist Association to give presentation to local Humanist and Atheist group, the Humanists and Freethinkers of Cape Fear

PRLog - Aug. 26, 2012 - WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Today, nonbelievers are a rapidly growing group at a time when traditional Christian churches are dwindling in numbers - and they are flexing their muscles like never before. David Niose explores what this new force means for the unchallenged dominance of the Religious Right. Hitting on all the hot-button issues that divide the country - from gay marriage to education policy to contentious church-state battles - he shows how this movement is gaining traction and fighting for its rights. Secular Americans are mobilizing and forming groups all over the country (even atheist clubs in Bible-belt high schools) to challenge the exaltation of religion in American politics and public life. Disenchanted at how far America has wandered from its secular roots, nonbelievers are emerging to fight for equality and rational public policy.

David Niose, an attorney from Massachusetts, is currently serving his second term as  president of the American Humanist Association. He previously served as treasurer of the  organization for four years. An advocate of identity-oriented secular activism, Niose is currently lead counsel in a case challenging the "under God" wording of the Pledge of Allegiance on equal protection grounds.

This event will be held Saturday, September 22, 2012 - 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Bridge Center, 127-40 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC
