The Pune University opened in 1948 and has grown into becoming a hub for research. In fact, our first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru called it the Oxford or the East. The Government College of Engineering, Pune, was the country’s first engineering university. It is still revered as one of the best engineering institutes in India.
