PRLog (Press Release) - Aug. 25, 2012 - For decades Pune – the city close to Mumbai – has proved to be the nerve centre for India’s education. A visitor to the city will find it evergreen, youthful and vibrant. This seventh largest metro reverberates with an energy that comes from passionate learning. It is here that many industry leaders and thinkers have been educated. In Pune, all caste and creed blend into the background. What matters most to the students is the sense of adventure that comes from exploring new ideas and the resultant answers. This hub of education offers diverse education opportunities for those seeking them. Some of the institutes located here are among the best in the country. The city gets students from all over the world as it offers them a plethora of choices that are backed by global quality.

The Pune University opened in 1948 and has grown into becoming a hub for research. In fact, our first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru called it the Oxford or the East. The Government College of Engineering, Pune, was the country’s first engineering university. It is still revered as one of the best engineering institutes in India.

Observing Pune’s education trend develop and gain momentum over decades, Kirloskar – the famous conglomerate that plays an important role in the industrial development of India, opened the Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies (KIAMS) here. KIAMS, with its first institute in Harihar, felt the need for more managers to spearhead the country’s booming economy.  KIAMS’ brand new state of the art, modern institution has top of the line infrastructure and faculty. Situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra river KIAMS new campus will provide Indian industry with young and capable business leaders.

Students come to Pune in droves each year armed with hope and the knowledge that they will launch into a career backed by learning and skills that will make them specialists in their chosen area: whether it is art, science, law, engineering, management or even archaeology.

A huge number of them get into of Pune’s pride and joy – the National Defence Academy. During the 60 years of its existence, NDA has seen the country’s braves pass through this institute before they head out to defend the country.

Despite a student’s chosen stream of education, he returns a culturally richer person. For the very soil in Pune is steeped in culture and Maratha history.  It is believed that the city has been in existence since 937 AD, and the well known Chhatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj lived here as a young boy. Obviously, the environment shaped him in his formative years. Pune is also known as the cultural capital of Maharashtra and is the seat of the Marathi language.

Situated in the Deccan Plateau, Pune is beautiful – even understated. Its avenues are lined with ancient trees that could tell you many stories if they could talk. Greenery abounds. Young chatter and laughter fill the air as kids whisk past on bicycles, many of them on their way to Pune’s famous Kayani Bakery where the most delectable Shrewsbury biscuits come out hot and fresh from their ovens every morning and evening. A treat to munch on as one concentrates on the day’s lesson.
