Relay For Life is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. The Relay itself takes part overnight or up to 24 hours, with each member of a team taking turns walking around the track for the duration of the event. “Cancer has touched all of us somehow, and of course we accepted the challenge,” said Winfield.
TCA committed approximately $3,000 in materials and equipment as well as contributing
personnel to help stage the event at Newton Middle School; numerous TCA employees also volunteered their time to help make the event a success. “This event could not have taken place without the sponsorship of Terracare (Associates)
“Although trying to make time to deal with details during business hours, and then after hours, seemed difficult, my eyes were cleared when an older lady approached me during the event to thank me,” said Winfield. “She is 92 years old and had cancer surgery on April 12, 2011, and walked the first lap with the aid of her walker as a cancer survivor…I did get a little teary as I accepted her thanks and told her I was happy she was there with us!”
