Three Separate McManus Shows to be filmed at the Bing Crosby Theatre
Over the past 20 years, Patrick F. McManus has written 5 distinct one-man
shows for his indentured actor, Tim Behrens. Two of these (A Fine and Pleasant Misery
and McManus In Love) were filmed by public TV and have been out on DVDs for some
time. Fans have sporadically deluged the author and the performer with requests to
film the other three shows (Scrambled McManus, Pot Luck and Poor Again…Dagnabbit!
).
Requests Noted!
Over two months, on three Thursdays, the shows will be filmed in front of
live audiences at the Bing Crosby Theatre. And that’s what we’re looking for: live
audiences. We hope that DVDs will be on sale in time for Christmas. And if you come,
you might very well be in them, because one camera will focus on the audience and the
lush pandemic of laughter that almost always accompanies a McManus show!
We have kept ticket prices as low as possible to assure big houses. AND,
we have established a very attractive “Series Price.”

Summary of the Three Shows

SCRAMBLED MCMANUS (October 4)
Pat and Tim personally selected favorite tales from the previous McManus
Comedies for inclusion in this story stew. Stories include many audience favorites: The

Night the Bear Ate Goombaw; the Camping Trip with 100-year old Ed; First Date (with
Melba Peachbottom); the Mummy Story (or how I learned to love the dark) and just for
this show, Our First Cannon.
The audience hears directly from 10 McManus characters as they humorously
recount how “story” made them come to life, and why stories mean so much in the first
place! The show appeals equally to diehard fans and to newcomers to the wacky
wonderful world of Pat McManus and the denizens of his hometown of Blight, Idaho.

POT LUCK (November 15)
The most bizarre of all Pat’s plays, containing an eerie and weird array of offbeat
McManus Stories. Witness Pat get abducted by space aliens. Find out why Mrs. Swisher
thinks Martians have grown wheat for their young near her farm. Learn how to make a
grasshopper trap, the Rancid Crabtree way. Be present at the mournful death of Zelda,
Pat’s favorite canoe. Get a lecture on ethics and what not to do about them. Examine
why real ponies don’t go oink! See Crazy Eddie Muldoon teach Pat the fine art of deep
sea diving with cows. These and more colorful stories await you if you’ve got enough
Pot Luck to come see them!

POOR AGAIN…DAGNABBIT! (December 6)
Guaranteed laughs as Pat recounts his childhood of poverty, his confrontations
with wolves at the door, his inspired descriptions of the not-so-Great Depression’s
impacts on everything from cars to maggot farming, from school assignments to dating.
Discover how to make, and inventively present, poverty foods like blood sausage, head
cheese and turkey gravy and how to live through eating them.
Two of Pat’s most popular and powerful stories are contained: The Boy, a tribute
to the bonds that bind and unwind men and boys, and Show and Tell, when you just
don’t have nothin’ to show and tell about!
Oh, and in the meantime, you get to learn how to build a car from spare parts.
The evening culminates in a conversation with Old Ed, Pat’s 100 year-old
philosopher friend, who puts love, life and today’s economy into perspective …if he can
stay awake long enough.

Pat McManus is one of the most popular humor writers in the country. He has authored
24 books which have sold about 5 million copies. Five of his short humor collections
have made the top 10 of the NY Times Bestseller’s list. His five one-man shows,
all performed by Tim Behrens, have played to more than 450,000 people in 1600
performances in 23 states over 20 years.

Reviewers’ comments about the McManus Shows:
“Outstanding performance…One terrific evening!” the late Jack Lemmon
“Behrens performs brilliantly, with an amazing range of facial expressions and
more limb twisting and odd-posturing humor than you’d ever imagine possible. The
whole thing is kind of like a cross between Bill Cosby and Mark Twain.” - Billings Gazette
