Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark Host 5K Run & Walk in Branch Brook Park
NEWARK, NJ -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark will host their second annual 5K Run & Walk - Day for Kids on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Branch Brook Park. The event will feature pony rides, special events, face painters, balloon twisters, a DJ and an assortment of healthy food around a competitive 5K Run and a leisurely walk around the park.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark provides a safe place for young people in Newark. Established in 1938 BGCN has been serving Newark and the surrounding communities for over 74 years as a non-profit, youth development organization. It is the Positive Place for Kids focused on giving young people the skills they need to develop into tomorrow’s leaders and professionals and parents of the future.
“I am very pleased to host a family-friendly event in one of the most famous parks in the country,” said Richmond Rabinowitz, the Interim CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark. “Branch Brook Park is a beautiful venue for both a run and a walk, and we invite everyone to come out and join us. This is a great way to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark and enjoy a day in the park with the family.”
The Day for Kids is a national event of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. It has been combined with the 5K Run & Walk so members of the Club can have a day out with special events. It has traditionally been one of the best days of the year for Club members.
The 5k Run will be a certified, timed run, and the course is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Run & Walk check-in will be at 8:30 am. The 5K Run will start at 9:15 am, and the Walk will begin around 10:00 am. To participate, register online at http://bgcn.kintera.org/
