Over the past decade, Gordon and Betty Whitham have notched up around fifty stays at the hotel. Since then, the plucky pensioners have stayed at the Rendezvous to celebrate every birthday, wedding anniversary and simply to “get away from it all”. Their most recent visits were to mark the occasion of their forty-eighth wedding anniversary on 29th July and again two weeks later to celebrate Mr Whitham’s eightieth birthday on August 12th.
Mrs Whitham, who works part time in her local Coop, says she and Gordon need travel no further for a complete get-away.
“We simply love staying at the Rendezvous. The minute we walk in, we feel like we’re on holiday”, she said.
“The hotel has a restaurant overlooking the canal and we always eat there. It’s a wonderfully peaceful place to dine while watching boats and swans drift by.”, she added.
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Gordon and Betty clearly have great taste and it’s wonderful to know that they’ve been enjoying holidays on their doorstep for all those years. Skipton’s reputation as a visitor destination is growing fast - I hope Gordon and Betty have many more wonderful holidays near home.”
Malcolm Weaving, who runs the eighty room hotel with wife Karen commented, “We are extremely proud to have such loyal customers as Mr and Mrs Whitham and we’re delighted they continue to choose to stay with us time and time again. It proves that if you live in Yorkshire, the best place to holiday is right on your doorstep.”
Earlier this year the Rendezvous was highlighted as one of the best hotels in the UK for groups, when it picked up the silver award in the “Best Individual Hotel for Groups” category at the National Group Travel Awards. For more information call 01756 700100 or visit www.rendezvous-
