“A small donation will go a long way toward feeding people in our community who can’t prepare their own meals,” said Donald Dwiel, president of the all-volunteer Venice Area Mobile Meals. “We are grateful to our many generous supporters, and we hope that others will help us raise this modest amount to make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.”
Venice Area Mobile Meals started the year with an anticipated demand to deliver over 51,000 meals, of which 10,200 would require funding by community donations. The percentage of meal recipients unable to afford the cost of meals has since risen to 22 percent, and meal cost also increased by $0.25, to $3.00 per meal, earlier this summer.
Venice Area Mobile Meals, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has provided over 1.4 million meals and an essential community service to the Venice area since 1969. Thanks to about 200 unpaid volunteers, the agency delivers an average of 165 meals a day, 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, all holidays included. Venice Area Mobile Meals will provide a meal to anyone in its service area that is physically or mentally unable to prepare a meal, regardless of age or financial situation.
