Follow on Google News | Meatsplit.com Is In Beta And Looking For Users! Those DeWolfes Creative has launched its latest website: Meat Split (meatsplit.com). The site allows people use their social network to organize and buy large quantities of local meat collectively.
The genesis of the idea came last Winter: a friend was trying to organize the split of a side of pork. Emails were flying around and spreadsheets were getting attached. A few people called dibs on one big ham. It was chaos. So, partners Mike and Cheryl DeWolfe said, "There has to be a better way." Hence: Meat Split. It's a way for someone to list a large purchase and have people pledge to buy cuts of meat. When all of the meat is allocated, the person who started the split can tell the butcher the portions and then deliver the meat bedlam-free. Costs What does it cost? The cost is 1 cent per pound of the hanging weight of a given large volume of meat. For example, 100 lbs. of halibut gets into the system for $1.00. A 55 lb. lamb costs $0.55 to put into the system. It's good value for the ease of use. Meatsplit sign-up is free. The person offering the meat (aka “the splitter”) pays for the transaction, but the purchasers of the individual cuts do not pay Meatsplit.com, they pay for their meat when in a manner negotiated with the splitter. Butchers and Hobby Farms Butchers and hobby farms are encouraged to list their own sides of meat on the site as new model for getting customers to commit to purchasing large volumes of meat and taking the shopping aspect off of the business’ plate but still leave them with the sale. Meatsplit.com has a section for butchers and they are encouraged to create a listing for their shop. Beta Mode The site is in “beta” so there may be oddities encountered. Users are encouraged to contribute feedback and ideas back to the developers. The developers love suggestions and most of the suggestions made get implemented. End
