FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug. 22, 2012 - Boulder, Colo. (August 23, 2012) — On Friday, August 24, The Conservation Alliance member companies, and other brands including Osprey, SmartWool, The North Face, Nite Ize, Backpacker’s Pantry, Outdoor Industry Association, La Sportiva, American Recreation Products, IMBA and Sea To Summit, will partner with Colorado Environmental Coalition and Boulder Parks and Open Spaces for a day of volunteer action.

Employees of these locally based member companies will volunteer their time for this collective day of stewardship, in their own backyards. They will be focused on helping to make improvements along a new portion of the popular Wapiti Trail with the goal of creating a more sustainable route that will stand up to use and mitigate user conflict.

“Boulder is a mecca for outdoor industry companies, so we’re excited to host our third Colorado Backyard Collective,” said John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance. “We look forward to getting a lot of work done on the Wapiti Trail.”

The Boulder Backyard Collective takes place Friday, August 24, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. meeting at Heil Valley Ranch, managed by Boulder County Parks and Open Space. The event also features a volunteer fair at which Conservation Alliance grantees and local environmental organizations share information on their current conservation initiatives and share ways for individuals to get involved.

“We are honored to be participating in this year’s Backyard Collective,” said Colorado Environmental Coalition’s Executive Director, Elise Jones. “Not only are we a grant recipient of The Conservation Alliance, but also we collaborate regularly with many of the outdoor companies that will be volunteering at Heil Valley Ranch. It is a great opportunity to connect with these volunteers and let them know what kinds of non-profits are supported by their employers.”

Boulder is the fifth Backyard Collective event in the 2012 season. Upcoming locations include Vancouver, B.C. (August 29) Bend, Ore. (September 13), and Peterborough, N.H. (September 18). This is the fourth year of Backyard Collectives for the Conservation Alliance and their members, grantees and partners.
