Aug. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- NicaTour Group announces they are working with CentreHolidays travel agency in Mississauga to promote Nicaragua as a viable winter get-away vacation destination to Canadians.

Nicaragua is not commonly known as a popular winter destination for Canadians because, well, it's both misunderstood and not known.  Tourists from Canada mainly focus on destinations such as Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic and NicaTour Group is out to change that.

NicaTour Group is a tour provider company, licensed in Canada and a member of NACTA (North Association of Career Travel Agents) who work in partnership with Centre Holidays, a  licensed travel agency and with licensed travel providers in Nicaragua.  NicaTour Group itself offers various lifestyle and special interest tours to Nicaragua such as their retirement/relocation tour at http://nicatourgroup.com/retirement-tours.html.

Owner Tanya Hartill has been working since 2010 to promote tourism in Nicaragua.  She thinks that Canadians are missing out on a very special experience by not exploring all that Nicaragua has to offer.

“Why not add Nicaragua to the choices of winter get-away destinations for Canadians?  But Nicaragua has to promote itself here in Canada. It's a country with a lot to offer tourists: unspoiled beaches, abundant nature, volcanoes, charming colonial cities and very friendly people. If Canadians are going to Costa Rica which is further south, why not Nicaragua?  Nicaragua is also a very safe country, the safest in Central America.”

There are currently efforts underway to promote tourism by INTUR, Nicaragua's board of tourism but this promotion is focused on the U.S. market. Direct flights to Nicaragua are approximately two hours long leaving from Atlanta, Houston, Dallas and Miami airports.  Currently, there are no direct flights available from Canadian airports and Canadians who do travel to Nicaragua must fly first to those American airports and then transfer to another flight to Managua.

However there is a large market in Canada for winter getaway vacations as Canadians try to escape the harsh winters of their country.  Each winter, Canadians enthusiastically purchase one or two week all inclusive vacation packages to places such as Cuba, Costa Rica and other Latin American and Caribbean islands.  It's a huge market for tourist dollars.

When Cuba decided in the early1990s to open up the island to tourism, Canadians – willing to try something new -  began flocking to the island.  Over the past two decades, Cuba, realizing the economic potential of the tourism industry dollars responded by building numerous resorts and hotels.  Cuba  has, in partnership with Spanish, European and Canadian partners began building a large network of  hotels and resorts to fulfill the ever increasing demand of their tourism industry.  Cuba is now an immensely popular tourist destination for Europeans, Central and South Americans and Canadians.  It hasn't hurt the financial coffers of the Cuban economy either.

In 2010, over one million tourists visited Nicaragua, indicating the increase in popularity of the country as a tourist destination.  However not many Canadians consider Nicaragua as a place to escape the cold winters... yet, that is.  Now you can book your flights and hotels to Nicaragua through the NicaTour Groups CentreHolidays' website at:  http://nicatourgroup.centreholidays.com
