Aug. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- German American Smart Buildings Symposium 2012
Tuesday, October 30th
9:00am to 4:00pm
Center for Architecture (1218 Arch Street)
Philadelphia, PA

Reducing energy use, raising comfort, and improving air quality are important goals in the building industry today.  In both Germany and the US, major developments have been made, which have changed the way we design and use our homes and offices.
Passive houses are now common in Germany, and the conversation is moving toward improving the interaction between building systems and users.  Also in the US, architects and researchers are learning that building use can be just as important as any energy efficient design.

In Philadelphia, the US Department of Energy, along with multiple local organizations, a major initiative called the Energy Efficient Buildings Hub to reduce energy use in commercial buildings in the Greater Philadelphia Region by 50% by 2014.  This challenging goal will only be reachable through a combination of improved buildings systems and more thoughtful building use.

In residential buildings, many local architects are working to meet the demand for efficient buildings.  Many people already recognize the savings and quality advantages that "eco-built" homes offer.  But education and training are still needed before the industry can meet its full potential.

This October, the German American Smart Buildings Symposium will bring together experts in industry, research, and policy to discuss the recent developments in efficient building technology and design as well as what steps still need to be taken.
Speakers will include:

- Philadelphia Mayor's Office of Sustainability (Invited)
- Rutgers Center for Green Building
- Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
- German Sustainable Building Council

You will also meet representatives of German efficient building companies, who plan to become more active in the Philadelphia area, including: BAERO North America, Inc.,batimet GmbH, Raico Bautechnik GmbH, Intep, and Wilo SE.
