Aug. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Africa is a place full of wealth of natural resources and it also harbour the poorest people in the world. The reason for the high rate of poverty in Africa is due to the dark mentality (mindset) of Africans. Majority of Africans are suffering and smiling and most of the few minorities that are rich got there by corrupt means. Although poverty is not hereditary but the rate at which poverty is transferring from one generation to another in Africa cannot be underestimated.
One could imagine why a continent rich in culture, tradition and natural resources, yet, still struggling with poverty. Although a nation’s wealth should correlate with quality of life but in Africa it is the opposite. The higher the wealth the lower the quality of life. This is due to the lack of managerial skills and the corrupt practices of the African leaders. Mathematically, we can say Africa’s wealth is inversely proportional to their growth. Though, it is obvious that they have poor leaders but it will be wrong to conclude that their poor leadership style is the reason for the high poverty rate. It is the dark mentality that makes Africans poor not mismanagement. This dark mentality is of different forms, depending on each individual family background and environmental factors.
An average African man believes so much in religion and their religious leader. Religion should be an avenue for progress but most religion in Africa has a way of making them accept their fate while others tend to improve their greediness because their leaders emphasis mainly on prosperity by making reference majorly to successful people outside the territory. This which has affected their psychological state in the believe in luck when it comes to riches and wealth.
Heard of the word corruption, then come to Africa to experience it. Even their leaders are not far from it. That’s why every African youth you see has the mindset to join the league of corrupt leaders. Most Africans are ready to do anything to dupe the white men because they see it as a way of revenging what has been done to their fore-fathers during slave trade. No wonder the popular name for internet fraudsters, ‘yahoo yahoo’. The best way to reduce high poverty rate is to find a way to eradicate corruption. The major problem of Africans is corruption. It is corruption that allows them to elect bad leaders. They are ready to cast their vote to candidate that is ready to bribe them. They taught the leaders are the problem. Unknowingly, to them that they invented the consequences.
An African man has a mindset of impossibility. The believed that what works in another part of the world will not work for them. They believe that people in the other part of the world has an advantage over them because of their economy, quality of education and good leaders. Although the standard in develop countries is undeniable, Yet, it is the same principle of success that works everywhere. Since, nothing is free even in Freetown. You work towards whatever you want.
Africans believe so much in metaphysical power. So, even if they are facing the greatest challenges of their life they tend to believe it is cause by the devil or someone inflict it on them. Even religious leaders don’t help matters because they brainwash them that every evil is from the devil and every good is from God. So, they blame others for their problem and they always have something to blame. Since, excuses have been part of them then they have enough excuses for dwelling in poverty. They either blame it on the country, the economy or their leaders.
An old adage says, “if you want to hide something from an African man, put it inside a book. It may sound like a joke but it is the absolute truth. Most Africans don’t read books and if at all they are going to read it must be compelled to them by their lecturers, a superior, religious leaders or it may be due to fear of failure. They do not know by reading books makes you learn from other people’s problem because they cannot live long enough to make the whole mistakes. This has affected their way of thinking and makes them arrogant. Arrogance, which is ignorance with ego. They taught they knew all it takes to climb the right ladder of success but by watching them closely you will discover they knew nothing about it.
No wonder the late Fela Anikulapo kuti summarize it in is song by referring to Africans has people who are ‘suffering and smiling’. When will African’s stop celebrating poverty? Although, poverty is a universal citizen that exist in every part of the world. While in most part of the world, they are looking for ways by which they can eradicate poverty but in Africa it is a burden they must endure. Then, what will be the fate of an African child if things continue this way? Perhaps one day, some day, Africans will think outside the box by emulating the western world. Until poverty is totally eradicated then will the African world become a paradise on earth.
