Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid Hits Record Speeds Of 267 Mph

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug. 21, 2012 - A modified Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid broke records at the Bonneville Salt Flats by hitting top speeds of 267 miles per hour; the fastest speeds of any hybrid vehicle to date. The Jetta hybrid utilizes an electric and traditional engine for power.  The 1.4 Liter engine offers an output of 150 hp and 184 lb feet of torque. The electric motor utilizes an ion battery for an additional 27 hp.  The engine was modified and tweaked in order to reach top speeds of 267 mph.

The current 2013 Jetta will be available as a diesel model with an estimated fuel efficiency of 30 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the freeway. Mileage for the hybrid model stands at 45 mpg for a combined fuel efficiency. The hybrid version that will be available in showrooms goes from zero to sixty in less than 9 seconds.

Engineers designed the ion battery to automatically disconnect when not utilized and during accidents for safety reasons. Standard features include satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity. Buyers have the option of adding amenities such as a navigation system, temperature controlled seats and an upgraded audio system at an additional cost. 2013 Jetta hybrid models are expected to hit Volkswagen dealerships across the nation towards the end of the fourth quarter.
