Festivities get under way on Friday evening with a country hoedown dinner and dance in downtown Thornbury. Don your Western garb and try your hand at line dancing as you mingle with the rodeo cowboys and cowgirls themselves.
Rodeo gates open at noon p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Highlights include:
· RCMP Muscial Ride – 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday; 2 p.m. on Sunday – A colourful Canadian tradition featuring 32 riders and horses performing cavalry drills choreographed to music. The stabling area will also be open so members of the public can mingle with the stunning thoroughbred horses and talented riders in person.
· Professional Rodeo – 4 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday – A true spectator sport featuring cowboys and cowgirls from Brazil, Mexico, the U.S. and Canada who will be vying for coveted world championship points as well as tens of thousands in prize money. Rodeo events include bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, team roping, calf roping, the Canadian cowgirls and more.
· Kid’s Hour in the Rodeo Ring – 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday –A chance for the ‘young-uns’
· Canadian Armed Forces Display – Members of the Land Force Central Area Training Centre in nearby Meaford will provide thrilling land vehicle rides and a chance to try the zip line, as well as the opportunity to see military armory firsthand.
· Live Entertainment – Evening performances by the Rockefellers (Saturday) and Georgian Bay’s Southern Comfort (Sunday).
· Licensed Concession Area – Available throughout the weekend and featuring local cuisine.
