Florida Author's Experiment Proves Sex Sells, Makes Amazon History

Aug. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- We all know sex sells. We see it in commercials, on line, pretty much everywhere. One Florida author decided to run his own experiment to see for himself just how well sex sells. In the process, he made Amazon history for one of the fastest rises of book ranking on the web site.

Most of the books Rick Bennette writes are sci-fi and/or love stories. They're pretty good stories. His books are sold mostly on line at  Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple and Sony with the hopes that readers will find them and buy them. So far, sales results have been only moderate at best. So the author decided to take matters into his own hands.

Says Rick, "I decided to write a short book about the lack of sex education among young teens, and how this affects their views on sex."

The book, titled 'Sex', is short; only about five pages long. Hardly enough to be earth shattering or even become a full length book. Rick posted his short, online book and never advertised it. The experiment was to see how many readers would simply discover it through their own search. The title of the book is 'Sex'. Guess what happened?

Somehow, readers around the world found it. Rick's five page publication hit the Amazon sex category top ten list at number six in it's first five days. Out of a million and a half total books on Amazon, 'Sex' hit number 2716 and sold in six countries in less than a week. Pretty amazing. None of his other books, which are interesting reads over a hundred pages long, sold as briskly as 'Sex'. Any surprise there?

Even though 'Sex' is a clean, family friendly read offering only five pages of insight about the subject, the experiment vindicated the author's suspicions. Sex, even the name alone, indeed sells better than other, more interesting books. Rick is now performing the same experiment in Italy with an Italian version of 'Sex'.
