“We are pleased that we did not have to resort to tearing down walls or digging up a trench through occupied historical walkways,” said Tim Ball, the Senior Director of Facility Services for the Salk Institute. “We were up and running in a couple weeks as opposed to a couple months.”
Approximately 300 feet of a 4”-wide underground sewer main was lined using Nu Flow’s patented, non-invasive process. The pipe line runs about 10 feet beneath luxurious travertine tile blocks that make up the floor in the outdoor corridors. These tiles, being the originals from the research institute’s 1960s construction, would be very expensive and difficult to replace.
Nu Flow’s unique and eco-friendly drain line technology, Nu Drain, was used to line and protect the underground main from forming cracks, buildup or root intrusion in the future. This Pull-in-Place solution was accomplished by using existing access points, which prevented any destruction to the campus’ architecture, a messy construction site and disruption to the campus’ normal operations.
