SBPRA Author Gregg Olson Pitches Baseball in New York Times

Aug. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- New York – Gregg Olson, former reliever and 1989 American League Rookie of the Year for Baltimore, was interviewed in the New York Times on Sunday about his new book We Got to Play Baseball, written with co-author Ocean Palmer. The book is a collection of 60 short stories, compiled from some 40 different Hall of Famers, All-Stars, veteran ballplayers, managers, coaches, umpires, and others directly involved in Major League Baseball. They are humorous and insightful, giving a unique look into not only the world of baseball but the players themselves.

Olson told New York Times writer Tyler Kepner, “I wanted to relate that these guys are good guys, and it’s a great game. Baseball’s gone through so much over the last eight years, with the Mitchell report and all the bad P.R. But it really is a great game, we had a blast playing it, and there are guys who played that you might not know. This kind of gives you a glimpse.”

This clean ‘PG’ look at ‘boys will be boys’ includes pranks like Ken Griffey Jr. putting a 1,500-pound steer into Lou Piniella’s office and teammates lighting fire to Jose Canseco’s pungent old spikes, as well as nostalgic memories of simpler days gone by, when teammates hanging around the locker room having a few beers was the thing to do.Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. says,“As a teammate, Gregg was a terrific story teller and always fun to be around. Baseball is filled with wonderful stories and Otter has done a great job of pulling them together into one place.”
