Planet Pizza Hosts Fundraiser for Orlando Police Officer Karen Long’s Battle with Breast Canc

Aug. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Orlando, FL – Planet Pizza will host a fundraiser luncheon on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, located at 14 West Washington Street, Orlando, FL in an effort to help raise money for police officer Karen Long’s battle with stage 4 breast cancer (www.williamandkaren.com).

“We are so grateful to our family, friends and the community for all of their support and efforts to help us fund Karen’s treatment,” Karen’s husband, William Long said. “The cancer has returned just short of her five year survivor anniversary and rather than sit back and let it control her life, Karen has chosen to fight back, once again with the support of her family, friends and the Orlando community.”

Karen’s family, friends and the community have come together to start the “Turning Up The Heat For Karen” campaign to help raise money to fund her treatment. Karen’s cancer has progressed to stage 4, which is now in her lungs and thoracic cavity.  In order to overcome the cancer, Karen needs hyperthermia treatment that she must undergo in Germany. The treatment takes several months and involves Karen’s body being heated up to 107 degrees periodically, in an effort to kill off the cancer cells. The treatment is not covered by Karen’s insurance.  Her first treatment is scheduled for the month of September.  

The cost for the event will be a $10 donation to fund Karen’s upcoming cancer treatment in Germany. The menu will include 2 slices of cheese, pepperoni or white pizza and a drink, or a hot dog, sausage and a drink. All proceeds raised will directly benefit Karen’s cancer treatment.  Event attendees will be able to take part in give-a-ways by Power 95.3 FM and K 92.3 FM, raffles and much more!

Karen Long has served twelve years on the Orlando Police Department. Aside from her dedicating her life to protect our city, she is also a wife and mother of two.
