Maclaren Quest Stroller, Black/Dove Discount Aug 2012

The only thing i dont like is that you need to use two hands to make the seat recline, but i heard they have fixed that with the newer model that just came out. other than that, it's a great umbrella stroller and better than the cheap 20 dollar ones.

Having the stroller be FULLY RECLINING (in mathematical terms...for the people who write the description...it is 180 degrees), was my most important criteria in selecting an umbrella stroller. My son is a bit taller than average and in a regular stroller, he slumps horribly and his head lolls to one side if he falls asleep in the stroller.
I most certainly do not want that.
This stroller is not fully reclining.
Did I say that before?
Let me say this again. When the description says "FULLY" ,it should mean and do exactly that.
The stroller may be great and good etc etc blah blah blah....
You can see how I hold all these qualities in total disdain ....for the very simple reason.
It did not meet my one NON-NEGOTIABLE criteria....it HAS to be fully reclining.

Now here is what really gets me. I saw a MacLaren Quest stroller which WAS fully reclining in Babies R' US. I am heading out to BRU to buy it now and I am going to post a picture of both the reclining mechanisms so that people can actually make an informed judgement before buying this product.

Maybe the stroller in BRU is a 2012 or newer stroller. Nothing in the description of THIS particular product says it is this year or last year.
On the bottom of the piece I received, the date is 12 NOV 2011 so most likely this is last years model and some sloppy product person has pasted in this years product description.
The other galling thing is that, on MACLAREN's US website at least, I did not find a statement that this is a fully reclining.
YET, I see this stroller in BRU and it IS FULLY RECLINING.

People reading this review might think...come-on it is not a big deal. Well I say to each his/her own. Everybody buys products keeping in mind their needs and this product did not meet my most important criteria. Simple.

This is the second stroller of this model we've owned. Like this one, the first one was wonderfully sturdy, convenient to use (easy to fold and unfold, light enough to lift easily when folded, good tires). But this second one has much shorter straps. They fit our baby now but I don't think we'll be able to use it for as long - he will outgrow the straps. Also it's a slight drawback that the stroller does not recline flat.

I've noticed many parents pushing their child in Maclaren strollers and have always wondered why would parents spend $200+ for a stroller. Having used about 5 different strollers in the last year, I now realize why. Even our little one loves it and gets excite when we pull this stroller out vs. others.

Advantages:
Folding - I'm impressed by the design. Folding and unfolding is the most simple to operate I've experienced. Essentially the folding operation is a step on a lever to unlock and push to collapse. Just brilliant! Once collapsed, it folds to be nearly flat and takes much less room in the trunk.

Lock - No hands locking system. When folding, the lock is designed to lock the stroller itself.

Seat rest - Strollers I've used all require pulling or releasing a belt that tightens or loosens to adjust the reclining position. I was amazed by the simplicity of the Maclaren. To recline the seat, pull the levers on each side and the seat automatically reclines one position. to push the seat back, simply push the seat to the desired position. There are total of three positions to choose from.

Maneuvering - Rolls smoothly and guides easily. The handle bars allow for one handed operation, though not as easily if the stroller is heavy.

Height - Perfect. Some strollers are too low. At 6 feet, the bars are positioned perfectly.

No assembly required - Opened the box and the the stroller is already assembled and ready to be used.

Disadvantages:
Canopy - For me, the canopy was too short.

Recline - Does not recline fully.

Bottom Storage - The actual storage bin is a decent size for most items, but because the opening is partially blocked, you can't actually slip large items through to rest it in the storage bin.

Conclusion:
Despite some short comings, the Maclaren is nevertheless an extremely well thought out, designed and constructed product. I definitely understand why it is a popular stroller among parents.
