Combining the agents' individual contributions yields some impressive results. In the first half of 2012, the company raised $27,000 and donated more than 500 hours to organizations such as the United Way and the YMCA.
In addition to setting up the foundation, Simon also launched a website to feature the firms charitable contributions.
"The long and short of it is to get credit for what you do," Simon says in the August issue of "Real Estate Broker's Insider." "Everybody knows that Realtors are very charitable individuals. A lot of times it goes unseen and unnoticed."
"When you're doing good for the community, word of that spreads," Simon says. "That might be the deciding factor for people wanting to deal with us."
If you are looking to leverage your community involvement consider the following tips from "Real Estate Broker's Insider:"
* Pool your efforts. If everyone in your company works for the same cause, you'll achieve impressive results.
* Be sincere. If you're more focused on selling than the charity, it'll show.
* Don't expect immediate returns. Community involvement is a way to market your company, but be patient.
Additional information on how to leverage your community involvement appears in the August issue of "Real Estate Broker's Insider."
