What New Businesses are setting up in Quarter 2 2012

Aug. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- New Business Data, the New Business Generation division of data8, have published their snapshot of the changes to the types of businesses setting up in the UK.

The percentage share of New Businesses setting up has increased while New Owners of existing businesses has declined.


New Business Data say that the two most significant changes are an increase in the percentage of ‘Food, Retail and Wholesale’ outlets but a decrease in the ‘Services’ sector. Within the ‘Food, Retail and Wholesale’ sector there was a large decline in the number of ‘Fashion Shops’ setting up, however ‘Florists’ have flourished.

In the ‘Services’ sector there have been falls in ‘Employment & Recruitment Agencies’ setting up, ‘Business and Management Consultants’ and ‘Marketing Consultants’ have halved and so have ‘Estate Agencies’

Looking at a number of individual sectors, the number of ‘Cafes & Tea Rooms’ has increased by over a quarter, ‘Convenience Stores’ have also increased, up nearly 50%, while ‘Delicatessens’ have halved. Does this reflect the change in shopping habits away from the ‘big shop’? The number of ‘Alternative & Complimentary Medicines & Therapy’ business setting up has halved, however we must still like our pets as ‘Dog Groomers’ doubled.

‘Garage Services’ have declined in number by a third, the car maintenance sector as a whole has shown a decline in the number of businesses setting up.
