Aug. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- As an American citizen you have the right to vote. While some folks seem to think their vote doesn’t count, they are wrong-everyone’s vote counts and means something. What does it mean to be able to vote in a country where so many people have been given the opportunity to live as freely as they can?  According to Rubi Carter voting is the foundation of our democracy in the United States. If the nation sits idle without voicing a word, then how can we call this a democratic nation? A democracy means that this is a nation based on the premise that every American citizen has the free and equal right to participate in some sort of government system. As a democratic nation the government elect is voted in by the people and that means you. If you decide not to vote, then your opinion will go unnoticed- it won’t count for anything. As an American citizen you have the right to social equality and that is the whole idea behind a democratic government. At one time women were not allowed to vote and they fought hard so their voice could be heard. One thing to remember is that you live in America and as an American citizen you want the right leaders running this country. You might not think your vote stands for something, but the truth is that even one vote can mean everything- it can change the lives of millions of Americans by voting for the right person. If you aren’t registered to vote then all it takes is a minute of your time to register in your county. Who you decide to vote for might change the direction of an entire nation. You can see why voting is important and why your vote matters. Especially now in a country where so many people are waiting on some type of positive change- to help bring a nation out of economic turmoil. For those choosing not to vote, they lose their chance at making some sort of difference to influence this country. As an American citizen we should be proud and take a stand to make any positive changes, and that means voting for officials we think will help set this nation straight. For those who choose not to vote and sot and complain about all of America’s problems, it’s almost hypocritical. If you choose not to vote, then you may as well not voice your opinion regarding the condition of the nation. If you cast your vote, then you have every right to complain about the present situation of our country. All we can do is cast a vote and hope that the right people will lead the nation and continue to set the path for others to follow. To read more log on to: http://www.oneamericansays.com/voting/ .
