Volpe and Koenig Founding Shareholder Fred Koening Elected to Council of American Bar Association

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug. 16, 2012 - PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (August 16, 2012) – Volpe and Koenig, P.C., an intellectual property boutique law firm with offices in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Princeton, New Jersey, announced that founding shareholder C. Frederick Koenig III was elected as a member of the Intellectual Property Law (“IPL”) Section’s Council of the American Bar Association (“ABA”) at the ABA’s annual conference in Chicago on August 4, 2012, to serve for the 2012-2013 Association year.  While all IPL Section members may help develop the policies that shape IP law, the Council performs the final review on Section positions and in some cases may adopt a position on behalf of the Section.  The ABA is comprised of over 400,000 lawyers, law students, and others interested in the law and the legal profession, with the commitment to: serving their members, improving the legal profession, eliminating bias and enhancing diversity, and advancing the rule of law throughout the US and around the world.  

Koenig also currently serves as the ABA’s IPL Section Liaison to the International Law Section, and as one of two IPL Section Representatives to the State Intellectual Property Office (“SIPO”) of China / US Bar Liaison Council, while serving as SIPO Council’s Chair for the 2012-2013 term.   He has held numerous other positions for the ABA’s IPL Section in over 30 years as a member, including as Section Liaison to the Asian Patent Attorneys Association, Representative to the US Bar Japan Patent Office (“JPO”) Committee, Chair of the Summer IPL Conference, Chair of the Membership Committee, and Chair of the Patents, Copyrights and former Meetings and Resolutions Divisions.

Koenig focuses his practice on securing and enforcing IP rights in a wide range of diverse product and technology areas, including computer software, wireless communication and surveillance systems, e-commerce, radar, microwave and optic systems, machine tools, chemical processes, cosmetics, dolls, toys, games, building products, textiles and business systems.  He has substantial experience in foreign IP matters, including litigations, administrative proceedings, and licensing of territorial and global rights.  Koenig has directly worked with local attorneys in over 30 countries in securing patent and trademark rights in implementing clients’ global IP strategies, and has coordinated the prosecution of global patent portfolios including the strategic use of Patent Cooperation Treaty (“PCT”) and non-PCT applications.
