-Performance Enhancing Drugs in HumseHai Life-

Athletes and doping scandals have always had a close affair with each other. With the London Olympics starting from 27th July, the topic of doping has become even more poignant. It isset to go down in history as the most dope-tested Games with more than 6,000 samples expected to be analyzed.Already, at the anvil of the London Olympics, an American runner has been stripped of her gold medal from the 4x400-meter at the 2004 Athens Olympics after admitting to doping.
Even the Indian Olympic contingent was hit hard last year, after the Asian games when six top quarter milersand three 4X400m relay quartet members were banned for one year.
There have been innumerable cases of international sportsmen being caught taking performance enhancing drugs. The stigma and social ostracism that comes with the taint of a ‘cheat’ has proved to be the deaths kneelfor many careers. Many famous names in the Indian and international arena have seen their glory & accomplishments annulled due to this scourge. Sports like cricket, football and tennis have also not been left out, with some high stature playersbeing brought under the drug abuse scanner, in the past.
So what leads an athlete to take a performance enhancing drug?Inspite of knowing the disastrous consequences, what makes them choose the easy way out? Is it pressure of performance? Is it the knowledge that the opposing sportsmen/athletes are better? Or is it just plain bad advice?
Channel V’s show Hum Se Hai Life, which is based on an aspiring woman boxer – Sia, is going to attempt and answer these questions. Sia is a hardworking and dedicated boxer, but there is immense pressure on her to perform at the Delhi Boxing Championship. This has been a dream for her, as well asher late father. Not only do her coaches & family expect her to perform, but her whole school is rooting for her to do the best.
Under such pressure, Sia in a moment of weakness takes a performance enhancing drug, and knowingly jeopardizes her career. She knows that if caught her career as a boxer would end before it began & not only that all her friends, family, teachers & coaches would turn away from her.
HumseHai Life, through Sia, will attempt toshow what makes the most pure athlete/sportsperson willingly risk their careers, what pressures they go through, what goes on in their minds.

How will Sia get to perform in the tournament? Will she win? Or, will she get caught?
Tune in to find answers to these questions.
Humse Hai Life, Monday to Friday 7:30 Pm only on Channel V.
