While traditional missionaries have devoted their lives to full time ministry, Dr. Wagner and his staff are also committed to living out the Christian faith and Biblical principals both at their office and outside of the office as they use their surgical training to serve others.
“It goes hand in hand,” Dr. Wagner says. “I hope people can see the light of our faith in how we treat them; and at the same time the fruit of faith in reaching out to people through mission work. I believe that my life is an extension of my faith. I try to live my faith so that others may come to know it as well.”
Dr. Wagner’s commitment to put his faith into practice has led to mission trips over the past 10 years to places like Panama, Guatemala, Argentina, New Guinea, New Zealand, Honduras and Kenya. Most of the trips have also involved members of his family and staff. In addition to cross-cultural missions, Dr. Wagner also uses his Wisconsin-based practice to reach the local community. His website includes a “Faith Message” page where he informs patients of his beliefs and involvement in ministry, asking them to “expect the best.” Additionally, Dr. Wagner reaches others in the Wisconsin area by participating in events such as the Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA)’s annual local outreach, Mission of Mercy (MOM).
“A number of missionaries I’ve met around the world have traveled to Racine, usually as part of a visit to the U.S., and have had their oral surgery care provided here. We recently did a major reconstructive facial surgery for a young missionary from Argentina,” said Wagner.
Most view traditional missionaries as those who leave modern day comforts to live abroad and teach the Bible to unreached people groups. However, Dr. Wagner and his team are part of a growing movement of Christians who find opportunities to reach others through professional training and the workplace. Billy Graham, one of the most respected and revered evangelists of this century said,
"I believe one of the next great moves of God is going to be through believers in the workplace."
Dr. Wagner and his staff at Wagner Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Specialists are proving Graham right. They’re using their surgical knowledge and professional training to advance the love of Christ and giving others more than one reason to smile.
