By: d1sportsnet.com #113-116: Too many holes to fill #116: Alabama-Birmingham Schedule strength: 107 Roster strength: 113 Overall potential: 117 The short on the Blazers: UAB found itself close many times last year only to fall short time and time again. New head coach Garrick McGee has plenty of quarterbacks to choose from. No one has been tabbed as the leader, and that could be good or bad. An offensive line decimated by graduation only makes matters worse. There are a few key returning players on defense; tackle Mickey Jackson, Connor Boyett, and Marvin Burdette will help slow down the opposition. Overall the Blazers may make games interesting and should win a few, but there are still too many question marks to be answered if UAB is to go far. #115: Middle Tennessee Schedule strength: 110 Roster strength: 112 Overall potential: 114 The short on the Blue Raiders: Consistency is the key. MTSU was in nearly every game last season, but the inability to stay with the opposition late in the game cost the Raiders games. Quarterback Logan Kilgore will once again have receivers Tavarres Jefferson and Anthony Amos to go to, and a cast of others, namely Marcus Henry, Arthur Williams and Christian Collis. And running back Benny Cunningham will also have a role on offense. The weak link is the defense. Improving the defense is a must, and will cost MTSU wins if the Raiders can't slow down the opposing offenses. #114: Idaho Schedule strength: 106 Roster strength: 114 Overall potential: 113 The short on the Vandals: Idaho does not have a set in stone quarterback, with three on the roster vying for the job: Dominique Blackman, Taylor Davis, and Ryan Bass. Receivers Mike Scott, Ken McRoyal and Daniel Micheletti are all back and each will likely see plenty of action. Consistency is key for the Vandals. Can Idaho win the games that they should have won? Idaho must focus on the game as a whole or they won't go far. #113: New Mexico Schedule strength: 123 Roster strength: 83 Overall potential: 122 The short on the Lobos: New coach Bob Davie inherits a team with a weak defense and an offense that has experience but lacks an impact player to get the job done. A couple of wins is all to expect from New Mexico this season. From http://www.d1sportsnet.com http://d1sportsnet.com/ End
