Is Healthy Air at Home The Neglected Health Topic?

Perhaps widely overlooked in our pursuit of health and longevity is the issue of indoor air quality. This very important aspect of living well is significantly aided by a proper air filtration system within the home.

Aug. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- When it comes to our health, as Canadians we have a vast amount of knowledge regarding nutrition, the importance of regular exercise and adequate sleep, and the value of supplementation for targeting specific concerns. But, there is one aspect of optimal health that often slips through the cracks of our pursuit for more energy, well-being, and a longer life. That is the very air we breathe into our lungs at an approximate 20,000 breaths per day. What many of us don’t realize is that without proper filtration methods, our bodies become virtual filters of often 50,000 pollutant particles with each breath we breathe!

Of primary concern is indoor air pollution, which is often five to more than 25 times greater than that of outdoor air, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  This is even more troubling considering that indoors is where the average Canadian spends 90% of their time. Presented with these kinds of statistics, it’s all too apparent that we need to learn how to maintain healthy air quality within our homes, for our own health sake and for that of our families.

Whole house HEPA (High Efficiency Particle Arrestance) filtration systems, like Fantech’s units, are among the most effective methods of eliminating most indoor, airborne pollutants. They efficiently deal with mold, bacteria, lung damaging dust, pollen, pet dander, carpet & textile fibers, auto emissions, dust mites, as well as most cooking and tobacco smoke, among others contaminants.

Fantech systems work by a 3-step filtration process, which involves a powerful 240 CFM fan, guiding the air, first through a pre-filter which traps many of the larger particles, then through the HEPA filter, which is certified  to be 99.97% effective at capturing particulate down to 0.3 microns. Finally, an activated carbon filter handles the problem of odors with powerful odor absorbing properties.

Each unit is constructed to filter the entire amount of air in your 2200 sq. ft. house every single hour, or in a slightly longer period if you have a larger home. These systems can be installed on your forced air furnace, and duct or collar mounted, or simply used independently and stored in a crawl space, closet, or attic.

The DM3000P duct mounted model includes a built-in airflow sensor switch that activates the unit whenever the furnace or air handler is in operation, and a backplate that allows for direct connection to your system. The CM3000 collar mounted model contains four collars, 2 pieces of UL listed 8” flex duct, and hanging chains for convenient installation. The CM3000I model offers the added benefit of an insulated outer shell, which is ideal for unconditioned spaces, such as a garage or attic, where condensation is a concern.

Maintenance of your Fantech unit includes regular filter replacements. The HEPA can have a life-span of between two and five years, depending on the regularity of the carbon and pre filter changes, which should occur every three months. You have the option of purchasing a full kit, including all 3 filters, a pre filter with carbon filter kit, or just the HEPA filter alone.

Installing and maintaining a high efficiency air filtration system, such as the Fantech, will help to ensure that you are getting the freshest possible air in your home. This will not only improve your sense of well-being for today, but can also help prevent you and your family from developing health complications due to poor air quality in the future. And isn’t that worth the little extra effort and care it will require?
