A-level Students At Risk Of Veering Off Course; Advisers Say ‘don’t Panic’!

Career and Personal Advisers in the South West are reassuring young people with the message ‘Don’t Panic’ if their exam results are not what they had hoped for.

Aug. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- For many, exam results day is an exciting time and the reward for years of hard work. For others, it can be a disappointing experience if they have not achieved the results they need to progress on to university, sixth form, college or the apprenticeship they have aspired to.

Staff at Careers South West have put a support system in place that is specifically geared to aid these students. They will have online advisers at www.careerssw.org to chat and many of their offices will have later opening hours enabling young people, to talk to someone about what their choices might be.

Jenny Rudge, Chief Executive at Careers South West said; “If the grades are a disappointment they may hinder a young person’s desire to progress to their chosen University. At this point a person becomes vulnerable. They may be at risk of feeling despondent, deciding not to go to University and then struggling to find their way forward from that situation. We want them to see that we are here to help with supporting their next step, possibly going through the clearing process, or accessing further education of a different kind.”

Web chat with a Careers South West Adviser Online will be available from 10:30am every weekday from August 15th until August 29th. Further details are available from the Careers South West website, www.careerssw.org or through head office on 01566 777672.

Most of the centres are open from 10:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, so pop in and see us or, better yet, book an appointment to talk to an adviser by calling 0800 97 55 111. The extended hours include;
Plymouth - August 16th, 23rd and 30th, open until 6:30pm.
Cornwall - August 16th and 23rd, open until 6:00pm (Camborne, Penzance, St. Austell and Truro).
