Making an Impact as a ‘Big For a Day’

Aug. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- Winchester, Virginia (August 14, 2012)-Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winchester, Frederick and Clarke Counties (BBBS) announces its inaugural Big For a Day partnership with area supporters; Valley Health, FastSigns and TV3. During the week of August 20, these organizations have volunteered an employee to be a Big Brother or Big Sister for a day to a child (little) waiting for BBBS program services.
   
Big for A Day participants are bringing the little to work for part of the day and spending lunch together. Sharing their work experience and discussing the path to get there including education and life choices aligns with the program mission of BBBS. “Mentoring is not only sharing discussion, but showing them opportunities that are the outcome of hard work and persistence,” shares Juli Ferrell, Executive Director of BBBS. Their mission supports one to one mentoring of same gender adult and child with weekly time and ongoing support until they age out of the program at eighteen years old.

Participants are encouraged to gain sponsors for the day, raising awareness about the ongoing need for qualified volunteers. Donations can be made online by visiting the Big for A Day page on the BBBS website: www.bbbswinchester.org . The 2012 Big for A Day participants are:

“Our goal is to share the potential of our programming with the volunteers for the day of the event, their organization and the little’s family. We want to engage area businesses in partnerships that support the growth of our agency. Big for A Day is an opportunity for the community to learn more about our agency and to focus on sharing a life experience with one of our littles,” says Ferrell.
